Abstract [sv]

Ortorexia Nervosa är ett begrepp som vuxit fram för att förklara en form av hälsoberoende som inkluderar extrem hälsosam kost i kombination med överdriven fysisk aktivitet. Denna studies syfte var att undersöka prevalensen av ortorexi och där i även ålder- och könsskillnader. Vidare syftar studien till att undersöka relationen mellan kost, träning och psykiskt välbefinnande på både generell och komponentnivå. Datainsamlingen skedde genom en enkätundersökning utförd på träningsanläggningar där sammanlagt 117 deltagare ingick i studien. Resultaten visade på en låg prevalens av ortorexi där ingen skillnad i upplevt psykiskt välbefinnande påträffades. Vidare visade resultaten på signifikanta samband på både generell och komponentnivå. Utifrån föreliggande studie fann man att ortorexi inte är vanligt förekommande samt att dessa personer inte upplever sig må bättre eller sämre psykiskt.

Abstract [en]

Orthorexia Nervosa is a concept that has emerged to explain a form of healthy addiction that include extreme healthy diet combined with excessive physical activity. This study aimed to investigate the prevalence of orthorexia and also age and gender differences has been studied. Furthermore, the study aims to examine the relationship between diet, exercise and mental well-being of both generic and component level. Data collection was done through a survey conducted in training centers where a total of 117 participants were included in the study. The results showed a low prevalence of orthorexia where no difference in experienced psychological well-being was found. Furthermore, the results showed the significant associations of both generic and component level. Based on the present study it was found that orthorexia is not common and that these people do not perceive themselves feel better or worse psychologically.
