Abstract [en]

This paper describes the a new methodology for the identification of puzzle pictures, demonstrated with a newly discovered Viking baroque shaped brooch from Vestervang, Denmark. The discussion begins with the mechanisms of image perception and ends in an interpretative perspective on the possible link between the pictorial language of the silver caster and the figurative language of contemporary skalds.
