Abstract [sv]

En litteraturstudie over fotokemisk nedbrytning av trä har genomförts. Själva nedbrytningen av de enskilda beståndsdelarna i träet, det viiI säga cellulosa, hemicellulosa, lignin och ett flertal extraktivämnen, som av den makroskopiska träsubstansen, har behandlats. Till skillnad från många av de litteraturstudier som tidigare har utförts inom detta område, har tonvikten inte lagts vid de kemiska reaktioner som sker då trä exponeras för elektromagnetisk strålning, utan mer på sjäIva träets nedbrytning på makroskopisk nivå. Skillnader i nedbrytningsmönster mellan virke med stående respektive liggande årsringar har också belysts.

Abstract [en]

This is a literature survey on the photochemical degradation of wood. The degradation of wood at the macroscopic level and its constituents, i.e. cellulose, hemicellulose, lignin and extractives, are discussed. In contrast with certain works, this review deals with the macroscopic degradation of wood, instead of the chemical reactions in wood due to exposure to electromagnetic radiation. Differences between wood with vertical and horizontal annual rings are partly discussed.
