Abstract [en]

SDR is short for Semantic Distributed Repository. It is a distributed infrastructure intended to alleviate problems in information exchange between different organizations. Resources are considered heterogeneous and can range from project specific files, simulation components, sensor data to service descriptions.The infrastructure is a hybrid between an index service, a file system and a middleware for distributed semantic resource lookup. SDR uses techniques common to the domains of P2P and Semantic Web. SDR has been running as part of different projects at the Swedish Defence Research Agency (FOI) ranging from 2005 to 2008. It has been conducted within the domain of Simulation & Distributed Systems. The work presented in this thesis was conducted between June and December 2006. The focus for this thesis is to integrate a distributed semantic inference algorithm of high quality with regards to precision into the SDR system and account for any design entailments by integrating such an inference algorithm. Performance and scalability is expected to be improved due to distribution.
