Abstract [sv]

Career Event är en årlig rekryteringsmässa vid KMA. Under mässan möter studenterna potentiella arbetsgivare inom sjöfarts- och driftsnäringen.  Observationer och informella samtal som gjordes under föregående Career Event, 2011, visade på att det finns ett behov av att undersöka om studenterna vid KMA innehar de förberedelser som önskas utav rederiernas rekryteringsrepresentanter. I rapporten sammanställs information baserat på intervjuer med rekryteringsrepresentanter från åtta rederier inom den svenska sjöfartsnäringen. I intervjuerna ger rekryteringsrepresentanterna sin syn på vilka förberedelser som de anser vara viktiga för att studenten ska ses som en intressant arbetssökande.Samtliga rekryteringsrepresentanter anser att förberedelser är viktigt och kan vara avgörande för att en anställning blir av. Kraven på förberedelser varierar parallellt med konjunkturen. Det innebär att studentens förberedelser har en mindre inverkan på om en anställning blir aktuell under en högkonjunktur då antalet arbetssökande är färre.Resultatet visar att en del förberedelser värderas högre än andra. Att ha ordning på sina papper och vara medveten om vad som krävs för den specifika tjänsten som söks anser samtliga rekryteringsrepresentanter vara en självklarhet. Det har även framgått i intervjuerna att det är viktigt att studenten presenterar sig själv genom ett välformulerat CV samt ge ett aktivt intryck och ställa frågor under rekryteringstillfället.Det är inte vanligt att en student gått miste om en anställning på grund av bristande förberedelser, men det har enligt undersökningen förekommit. Studenten kan genom förberedelse öka sina chanser att få en anställning inom sjöfartsnäringen.

Abstract [en]

Career Event is an annual recruitment fair at the KMA. During the fair, students meet potential employers in the maritime and service industries. Observations and informal conversations made during the previous Career Event, 2011, indicated that there is a need to investigate whether the students at the KMA poses the preparations which is desired by shipping recruitment representatives. In this report, information was collected from interviews with recruiting representatives from eight companies within the Swedish shipping industry. In the interviews the recruitment representatives provides their view of the preparations which they consider to be of importance for the student to be perceived as an interesting candidate for the job.All recruitment representatives believe that preparation is important and can determine whether a job gets appointed. The requirement for preparation varies in parallel with the economy. This means that the student's preparation is of less importance when seeking a vacancy during an economic boom when the number of job seekers is less.It has been found in the results that some preparation is valued higher than others. The individual’s knowledge and structure on papers / certificates and awareness of qualification requirements for the position sought are both considered by all recruitment representatives to be obvious. It was also obvious in the interviews that it is important that the student will present itself through a well written CV and provide an active impression by relevant question asking during the recruitment meeting.It is rare that a student has missed out on an employment due to lack of preparation, but it has during the investigation occurred, by means of preparations, students can improve their chances to get employed for a job in the shipping industry.
