Associations between stress and physical activity : - knowledge of the nurse's health promotion in nursing care (English)
Abstract [sv]

Abstract [en]

Society is changing at an accelerating rate and it also increases stress among individuals hence the stress-related diseases. By conducting health promotion care, many lifestyle diseases are preventable. Physical activity is said to be stress-reducing and have good effects on stress symptoms. The purpose of this study was to describe associations between stress and physical activity. Fifteen quantitative scientific articles are reflected in the results, which in turn are divided into four different categories: physical activity reduces stress, physical activity reduces stress in a dose-response relationship, physical activity does not reduce stress, and stress has effects on physical activity level. The majority of the results of the study articles show that there are associations between physical activity and stress. Physical activity is good for reducing and countering both the psychological and physiological stress in individuals. It is important that nurses are working with health promotion and have knowledge of the rise and coping of stress. These health promotion skills should be implemented during nursing education and nurses should receive regular training. Further qualitative research focusing on the individual's experience of the relationship between stress and physical activity is desirable.
