A Particle Dispersion Model backward in time for the Stably Stratied Boundary Layer

Abstract [en]

At present FOI has a forward model for simulations of particle dispersion in the stablystratied boundary layer, based on the Langevin model and the Fokker-Planck equation.This thesis project aims to complement that model for the case of predicting the origin of aspecied dispersion given the location of the particles at a given time after the start of thedispersion.The nal results include an empirical model capable of simulating the particle dispersionbackward in time, as well as a possible way to compare the resulting model with thetheoretical results.Preliminary simulations of particle dispersions with this empirical model show the predictedorigins to be close to the designated starting position of the dispersion.
