Abstract [sv]

Syftet med det h‰r arbetet var att visa hur ett varum‰rke kan byggas och att prova detta genom en kollektion mˆbler och inredningsprodukter under arbetsnamnet îTextila sammanfogningar ñ Gone Bananasî. MÂlet var att p examensutst‰llningen kunna presentera en kollektion mˆbler. Vi skulle ocks vid examensarbetets slut ha utvecklat en grund till vÂrt varum‰rke i bild och text om oss och vad vi gˆr. Dessutom skulle vi ha skapat en grund till vÂr grafiska profil och bˆrjan till en hemsida. Fˆr att kunna hj‰lpa andra som vill starta ett varum‰rke ville vi att beskriva alltsammans i en bok. I mÂlet ingick att texten i denna examensrapport skulle vara s f‰rdig till form och innehÂll att den efter framl‰ggning med korrigeringar och sprÂkredigering skulle kunna publiceras inom sju mÂnader. 

Fˆr att n mÂlet har vi i stort sett arbetat p fyra olika s‰tt. Vi har gjort en litteraturstudie, intervjuat AndrÈ Hindersson som arbetar p designbyrÂn Silver, gjort fallstudier p fem utvalda varum‰rken samt ritat och tillverkat en kollektion mˆbler. Allt detta har hj‰lpt oss i arbetet att formulera vad vÂrt fˆretag ‰r och vill. 

Resultatet ‰r en grund till vÂrt varum‰rke med namnet LarsEk, vilket vi kommer forts‰tta att utveckla efter examen. Vi har tagit fram en grafisk profil innehÂllande logotyp, f‰rgskala, olika typsnitt, foto, bˆrjan p en hemsida samt en designfilosofi som vi kan fˆrhÂlla oss till. Den lyder: î LarsEk designstudio jobbar som frilansande konsulter och s‰ljer tj‰nster inom mˆbeldesign, produktdesign och inredning. îDet handlar om detaljerî ‰r vÂrt s‰tt att kommunicera LarsEk som helhet. Fˆr vÂra produkter har vi enats om ett mer specifikt budskap. De har en personlighet som gˆr att man skapar k‰nslom‰ssiga band till dem, nÂgot som ˆvergl‰nser ocks det funktionella i dem. Vi ‰r b‰ttre ‰n vÂra konkurrenter fˆr att vi kan kombinera en optimal funktion och konstruktion med en stark personlig koppling som gˆr vÂra produkter till individer. VÂr unika s‰ljegenskap ‰r inst‰llningen att îprodukter ‰r individerî.î

Designfilosofin provade vi genom att tillverka 5 olika mˆbler: ett bord, fyra stolar, fyra pallar, en byr och ett v‰ggh‰ngt skÂp. Alla mˆbler innehÂller tryckknappar eller dragkedjor fˆr att f‰sta eller sammanfoga delar eller detaljer. Genom arbetet har vi visat betydelsen av att arbeta v‰xelvis med en kollektion och ett varum‰rke d‰r det ena pÂverkar det andra i en st‰ndigt pÂgÂende process.

Abstract [en]

The purpose of this work is to show how to build a brand and test this with a collection of furniture and furnishing products. Our work, with the working title îTextile Joints - Gone Bananasî, was presented as a collection of furniture at the Carl Malmsten graduate exhibition. Upon completion of our thesis we will have developed a basis for our brand including a range of images, texts, and press material. Additionally, we have started to work on our graphic profile and website. In order to help others who want to start a brand we will describe our process in a book. Our ambitions are for this report to be complete in form and content allowing us to publish it within seven months.To achieve this aim, we have worked in four different ways. First, we conducted a literature review. We then interviewed AndrÈ Hindersson who is working at design agency Silver. We then made case studies of five selected brands. With our findings we then designed and manufactured a collection of furniture. All this has helped us in formulating what our company stands for and wants.The result is a foundation for our brand, LarsEk, which we will continue to develop after graduation. We have developed a graphic profile including logo, colours, typography, photos, the beginning of a website and a company design philosophy. It reads: îLarsEk design studio works as freelance consultants and sell services in furniture design, product design and interior design. Itís all about detailsî. This statement is our way of communicating LarsEk as a whole. For our products we have agreed on a more specific message. They have a personality that makes you create emotional ties to them, something that transcends the functional aspects of furniture. We are better than our competitors because we can combine optimum performance and construction, with a strong personal connection that turns our products into individuals. Our unique selling feature is the attitude îproducts are individualsî. îWe tested our design philosophy through making 5 different pieces of furniture: one table, four chairs, four stools, a dresser and a wall-hung cabinet. Every piece of furniture includes pushbuttons or zippers for attaching or connecting parts or details. Through the work we have demonstrated the importance of working cohesively with a collection and brand that affect one another in a continuous process.
