Abstract [sv]

Att borra rakt och med rätt djup har visat sig vara svårare än man tror. Kandidatexamensarbetet som presenteras i denna rapport har därför som mål att ta fram ett koncept för en eftermarknadsprodukt som kan mäta borrdjupet och vinkeln, samt presentera detta för användaren. Målgruppen för produkten identifierades som hemma-fixaren, som uppskattar liknande tillvalsprodukter. Arbetet innefattar en litteraturstudie av olika alternativa tekniker för avståndsmätning och positionering. Studien resulterade i att ett koncept med ultraljud skulle vara mest fördelaktigt sett till ekonomi och funktion. Parallellt med denna konceptutveckling tillverkades även en reell prototyp för avståndsmätning i samarbete med ett kandidatexamensarbete inom mekatronik. Här förenklades funktionen till att bara gälla avståndsmätning i ett led för att praktiskt utvärdera tekniken och dess funktion. Fokus låg i att utreda huruvida ultraljud går att använda inom teknikapplikationer som kräver någorlunda precisa avståndsmätningar. Prototypen uppvisade resultat, med en noggrannhet på ca 1 mm, som stärkte tesen att ultraljud går att använda i sådana situationer.

Abstract [en]

To drill straight and with the right depth has proved to be more difficult than you might think. The bachelor thesis presented in this report is therefore aimed to develop a concept for an aftermarket product that can measure the depth and angle of the hole, and present it to the user. The target audience for the product was identified as the average handy man, who appreciates similar products. The work includes a literature review of various alternative technologies for distance measurement and positioning. The study concluded that a concept of ultrasound would be most advantageous in terms of economy and function. A prototype for distance measurement was developed in cooperation with a bachelor thesis in mechatronics. The functionality of the prototype was simplified to only measure distances in one direction, which lead to a practical evaluation of the technology and its function. The aim was to investigate whether ultrasonic sound is a technic suitable for technological applications, which demands fairly accurate measurements. The prototype confirmed that the desired accuracy of about 1 mm was reachable and therefore affirmed that ultrasonic sound is suitable for this kind of operation.
