Abstract [sv]

Abstract [en]

The Swedish venture capital companies’ investments in start-up companies decreased by 60 percent during the years 2009-2010, and with only a few venture capital participants left on the market it might become a problem for the start-up companies to find funding for growth. As business angels are investors who function as additional links to the venture capital companies in the same financial chain, it is of importance to study whether they also have reduced their amount of investments during the years of the financial crisis in 2008/2009. With focus on investment motives, strategies, and risk taking, a survey and interviews have been conducted in order to investigate whether the business angel’s will to invest has changed during the financial crisis similar to that of the venture capital companies. The results show that there has not been any over all tendencies of reduced investing activity by the business angel’s. The key words for the essay are: business angels, financial crisis, venture capital company, investing motives, investing strategies and risk taking.
