Abstract [sv]

Syftet med denna uppsats var att utröna vilka möjligheter vi som nyutexaminerade utan sjöerfarenhet har för att kunna konkurrera om en position på ett landbaserat företag som är aktivt inom sjöfartsbranschen. Vi anser detta vara relevant då arbetsmarknaden för svenskt däcksbefäl har förändrats mycket de senaste 10 åren. Vi använde oss av den kvalitativa metoden då denna metod passar syftet; att intervjua landbaserade företag inom olika branscher och därigenom undersöka om en sjökaptensexamen anses vara en tillräcklig kompetens för att erhålla anställning iland. För att undersöka detta använde vi oss av telefonintervjuer samt bokade möten med bland annat personalchefer och högt uppsatta inom organisationen. Resultaten varierade mellan de olika företagen, vissa företag kunde tänka sig att anställa en nyutexaminerad utan sjöerfarenhet medan andra ansåg att sjöerfarenhet eller annan högre akademisk utbildning var mycket önskvärd då vissa positioner kräver mer inriktad kunskap inom till exempel ekonomi, juridik eller logistik.

Abstract [en]

The purpose of this essay was to explore what possibilities we, as newly graduated without experience as an officer, have to compete for a job on a shore based company which is active within the maritime sphere. We consider this relevant when the labour market for Swedish deck officers has changed during the last 10 years. To match our purpose we used the qualitative method in interviewing shore based companies associated with different areas in the marine industry and thereby examine if a degree in nautical science is considered as competency enough to obtain employment ashore. To make this survey we conducted interviews over the telephone and personal meetings when possible, with for example head of personnel or others whom are high up within the organization. The result varied between the different companies, some companies could consider hiring an newly graduated without experience as an officer while others considered the experience or a higher academic education desirable when some positions demand a more oriented knowledge in economics, maritime law or logistics.
