Abstract [sv]

Abstract [en]

This master thesis is commissioned by Stora Enso, Skogall AB. They wished for anenvironmental history over the industrial area that Skoghalls Bruk holds today. The goal withthe master thesis was to enlighten them about potential polluted areas at the mill. SkoghallsBruk is today an integrated cardboard mill, which means that almost all pulp is manufacturedon site and is used at the cardboard production.

The environmental history has been gathered with an inventory according to the MIFO modelthat has been developed by Naturvårdsverket. A literature research has also been done overthe ecologically harmful substances that could be found within the mill area.

Skoghalls Bruk has had a sulphite and a sulphate factory on the area since 1917. There hasalso been a sawmill at the area but in 1986 it was terminated along with the sulphite factory. In other words it has existed forestry industrial activity at the area during a longer period thatmeans that the ground could be polluted with a great variation of chemicals. The area hasbeen risk classed as 1, which means that a great risk for environmental pollution can occur, and therefore more researches about the soil are needed. The results are displayed in mapswere different kind of activity that can lead to pollution is marked.
