Abstract [en]

Since the advent of digital tools, health authorities in the Nordic countries have embraced, and taken an active role in supporting the development and implementation of information systems to enhance their healthcare systems.

The Nordic eHealth Research Network (NeRN) is a forum for policy makers and researchers to jointly work towards measurable policy goals and data that can be exploited to steer decision making.

In this NeRN report, we show that the Nordic countries have begun to leverage their installed base of health-related information systems by putting them front and center in their healthcare reforms. The policies put greater emphasis on engaging, empowering and activating the patient. The policies now encompass research and innovation workflows and show a greater concern for the work-life of health professionals. This has implications for indicator development.
