Daily life with asthma : A literature review on patients' experiences (English)
Abstract [en]

Background: Asthma is a chronic disease that affects health, quality of life, and can cause economic as well as social consequences. Nurses have a responsibility to provide individualized support and information to promote person-centered care. Aim: The aim was to highlight patients' experiences of living with asthma. Method: The study was conducted as a general literature review with an inductive approach, based on 12 scientific articles. The articles were quality-reviewed, and the content was four categorized. Results: The categories were limitation of physical health, impact on relationships, impact on mental health, and challenges in treatment. The results showed that asthma affects patients on physical, social, and psychological levels. Physical limitations included difficulties with daily activities and physical exercise. Asthma also negatively impacts social relationships, which may lead to social isolation and feelings of loneliness. Challenges related to asthma medication were identified, such as distrust of medication and difficulties in adhering to treatment recommendations. Conclusion: Asthma affects patients' physical, psychological, and social health, which can limit daily life and impact quality of life. Further research is needed to increase patients' knowledge and promote self-care. The research should also integrate mental health, social factors, and long-term follow-up and support for both patients and their relatives.

Resultaten visade attastma påverkar patienter på fysiska, sociala och psykiska plan. Fysiskabegränsningar inkluderade svårigheter med dagliga aktiviteter.
