Abstract [en]

This bachelor’s thesis investigates the question of how adaptations of computer games have changed through the intermedial analysis of the films Super Mario Bros. (1993) and The Super Mario Bros Movie. (2023) and the games Super Mario World (1990) and Super Mario 3D World (2013). It does this with a diachronic perspective with transmediation and media representation as focal points. The thesis reaches the conclusion that the subversion of the role of the female character in the latter film as well as the more prevalent media representation of both remembrance of gameplay and the decision to make The Super Mario Bros. Movie more aesthetically close to it’s source material might indicate that adaptations of computer games in Hollywood films are taken more seriously by the film industry.
