Title Nurse's experiences of promoting well-being in palliative cancer patients : A general literature review (English)
Abstract [sv]

Abstract [en]

Background: The number of people affected by cancer is increasing every year, largelydue to the aging population. This leads to a greater need for palliative care, which placesdemands on nurses' competence. Aim: The aim was to highlight nurses' experiences ofpromoting well-being in patients with cancer in palliative care. Method: A generalliterature review with an inductive approach was conducted. Searches were performedin CINAHL, PsycInfo and PubMed. Results: Three main categories were identified inthe results: Therapeutic relationship, holistic palliative care and the nurse's challenges. To create a sense of security and comfort, the nurse needed to address the patient’sphysical, psychological, spiritual and social needs, as well as establish a relationshipbased on trust. The study also highlighted the challenges that could affect the nurse’sability to promote the patient’s well-being. Conclusion: A holistic approach to nursing, where the nurse focuses on all aspects of the patient's needs, is essential for high-qualitycare and ensuring patient well-being. At the same time, various challenges may limit thenurse's ability to fully promote well-being in patients receiving palliative care. Therefore, nurses need to be aware of these challenges and continuously develop theirknowledge to provide the best possible support and care for the patient.
