Abstract [en]
This study explores the integration of social justice and gender equity considerations into Barcelona's urban planning, with a particular focus on the nighttime. Using Barcelona as a case study, the research analyzes policy documents and expert interviews to assess the progress and challenges in incorporating both gendered and nocturnal perspectives into planning. This analysis is framed through a social justice lens that considers its recognitional, distributional, and procedural dimensions. The findings reveal significant progress in integrating gender equity and social justice values into planning; however, a comprehensive approach to nighttime urban planning remains largely underdeveloped. In this sense, the study suggests that incorporating a nocturnal dimension is crucial for further advancing gender equity and provides recommendations for future policies and strategies that could help foster inclusive nighttime urban environments.
