Life After SiS : A Qualitative Study on Social Workers' Perspectives on Aftercare Services for Youths Following SiS Institutions (English)
Abstract [en]

This study examines the perspectives and experiences of social workers involved in aftercare for youths with criminal backgrounds who have transitioned from SiS-homes in Sweden. Utilizing a qualitative approach with a purposive sampling method, eight social workers from municipalities of varying sizes were interviewed. The study explores how social workers identify risks and needs, develop relationships with youths, and tailor aftercare interventions to support sustainable behavioral change. The theoretical framework combines the transtheoretical model, ecological systems theory, and relational theory to analyze the dynamic interplay between individual development, environmental factors, and professional relationships. Findings highlight the significance of individualized interventions, the role of trust in social worker-youth relationships, and the need for collaborative efforts to mitigate the risk of recidivism. The study underscores the importance of a comprehensive and adaptive approach to aftercare, aiming to facilitate successful reintegration and long-term positive outcomes for youths.
