Sammanfattning

Bakgrund: Suicid är ett allvarligt folkhälsoproblem som förutom individen som suiciderar påverkar anhöriga och vårdpersonal. Suicid beror nästan alltid på ett outhärdligt psykiskt lidande. Sjuksköterskor i psykiatrisk öppen- och slutenvård har inblick i suicidnära patienters livsvärldar och kan hjälpa dem att återhämta sig gällande psykisk ohälsa. Det är därför viktigt att tillvarata sjuksköterskors erfarenheter av omvårdnad av suicidnära personer och av suicid.

Syfte: Syftet med studien var att utforska sjuksköterskor i psykiatrisk öppen- och slutenvårds erfarenheter av patienter som antingen suiciderat eller lever suicidnära.

Metod: För att besvara studiens syfte användes en integrerande sammanställning av publicerad kvalitativ forskning inspirerad av metasyntes. 12 artiklar inkluderades och analyserades.

Resultat: 5 teman framkom: Betydelsen av resurser, Behov av att kunna hantera egna svåra känslor och uppleva hanterbarhet, Sjuksköterskans ansvar vid suicidriskbedömningar och suicidprevention, Betydelsen av att kunna tolka icke-verbala suicidala tecken. Att söka förståelse för patientens livsvärld. Därtill 12 subteman.

Slutsats: Studiens resultat indikerar att psykiatrisjuksköterskors erfarenheter från arbete i psykiatrisk öppen- och slutenvård kunde användas i högre utsträckning i vården av suicidnära patienter. Studien indikerar även ett behov av stöd och kunskaper för sjuksköterskor i omvårdnaden av suicidnära patienter.

Abstract

Background: Suicide is a worldwide cause of death that affects nurses emotionally. Risk factors include childhood abuse or depression. Nurses in psychiatric outpatient and inpatient care have insight into the lifeworlds of suicidal patients and can help them recover regarding mental illness. It is therefore important to take advantage of nurses' experiences of caring for suicidal people and of suicide.

Aim: The study's aim was to explore the experiences of nurses in psychiatric outpatient and inpatient care of patients who either committed suicide or were suicidal.

Method: To answer the aim of the study an integrative compilation of published qualitative research inspired by metasynthesis were done. 12 articles were included and analyzed.

Results: 5 themes emerged: The importance of resources, The need to be able to manage one's own burdensome emotions and experience manageability, The nurse's responsibility in suicide risk assessment and suicide prevention, The importance of being able to interpret non-verbal suicidal signs. Seeking understanding of the patient's lifeworld. Theretoe 12 subthemes.

Conclusion: The results of the study indicate that psychiatric nurses' experiences from working in psychiatric outpatient and inpatient care could be used to a greater extent in the care of suicidal patients. The study also indicates a need for support and knowledge for nurses in the care of suicidal patients.
