Abstract [sv]

konsumenters autonomi i e-handel.

Abstract [en]

Dark patterns are design strategies used in e-commerce to manipulate consumers and

influence their decision-making. This study examines the role dark patterns play in

consumers’ purchasing decisions within e-commerce through a qualitative approach.

Using semi-structured interviews, consumers' experiences of three specific dark

patterns: Pressured Selling, Countdown Timer, and Activity Message were analyzed.

The results indicate that dark patterns can increase purchase intent by creating time

pressure and social influence but also foster distrust and skepticism toward e-commerce

platforms. This study contributes to a deeper understanding of how dark patterns have

the potential to affect consumer decision-making and highlights the need for increased

awareness and regulation to protect consumer autonomy in e-commerce.
