Being a family member of a woman with breast cancer : A general literature study (English)
Abstract [sv]

Aim: The aim was to illustrate the experiences of being family to a woman with breast cancer. Method: A general literature study in which eight scientific research article were identified through searches in the CINAHL and PubMed databases. The research articles were analyzed using qualitative content analysis. Result: The results were divided into three categories: Feeling worry and fear, Feeling inadequate and Feeling excluded. Conclusion: The implementation of education for healthcare professionals is needed to increase awareness of family members need for support and information. Increased knowledge may lead to better collaboration between healthcare professionals, the woman with breast cancer and the family members, as well as reduce the risk of stress and decreased quality of life among family members.
