Bakgrund: Efterfrågan på vård i livets slutskede ökar, vilket kräver förbättrad vårdkvalitet genom utbildning av både nya och erfarna sjuksköterskor. Detta innefattar att inte bara möta patientens behov utan också att hantera det ökande behovet av emotionellt stöd för närstående. Sjuksköterskor som arbetar med vård i livets slutskede upplevde sitt arbete som krävande med begränsad tid avsatt för patienter och anhöriga. Genom att beskriva sjuksköterskors erfarenhet av att vårda patienter i livets slutskede ges en bredare insikt i hur sjuksköterskor uppfattar sina roller. Syfte: Att beskriva sjuksköterskors erfarenhet av att vårda patienter i livets slutskede. Metod: En litteraturöversikt av åtta kvalitativa artiklar och två kvantitativa artiklar. Resultat: Resultatet identifierade tre teman; sjuksköterskors roll i vård i livets slutskede, miljöns betydelse i vård i livets slutskede och närståendes roll i vård i livets slutskede. Slutsats: Vård i livets slutskede var av stor betydelse för både patienter och deras närstående. Sjuksköterskor som arbetade med vård i livets slutskede behövde stöd i form av utbildning, tillräckligt med tid och samarbete med experter som läkare för att kunna tillhandahålla och upprätthålla en högkvalitativ palliativ vård.

Background: The demand for end-of-life care is increasing, necessitating improved care quality through the education of both new and experienced nurses. This includes not only meeting patients' needs but also addressing the growing demand for emotional support for family members. Nurses providing end-of-life care find their jobs very demanding with limited time allocated to patients and relatives. Describing nurses’ experiences of caring for patients at the end of life provides broader insight into how nurses perceive their roles. Aim: To describe nurses experiences of caring for patients at the end of life. Method: A literature review of eight qualitative articles and two quantitative articles. Results: The results identified three themes: the role of nurses in end-of-life care, the importance of the environment in end-of-life care, and the role of family members in end-of-life care. Conclusion: End-of-life care was of great importance to both patients and their relatives. Nurses who worked with end-of-life care required support in the form of education, adequate time, and collaboration with experts such as doctors to provide and maintain quality end-of life care.
