Art Education, Role Models, and Identity Formation : A study on students' perspectives on their future through art education for grades 7–9. (English)
Abstract [sv]

Abstract

Abstract [en]

Abstract

This study explores how art education can support students in socioeconomically disadvantaged schools by strengthening their identity, self-reflection, and future aspirations. The study employs a workshop-based method where students worked on an art assignment about role models and life goals. Students analyzed norms and values through three stages—introduction, reflection, and creation.

The results show that artistic creation can be a powerful tool for self-reflection and future planning. Students better understood their goals and questioned the norms influencing their choices. This study provides valuable insights for educators wishing to use visual arts as a pedagogical tool to enhance students' critical thinking and motivation.
