Problematisk skolfrånvaro är ett växande problem i Sverige som medför flera olika konsekvenser för individen och samhället. Studien syftar till att studera de ekonomiska konsekvenser som problematisk skolfrånvaro medför för familjerna. Studien baseras på sex semistrukturerade intervjuer med föräldrar som har ett eller flera barn med problematisk skolfrånvaro. Det empiriska materialet har analyserats med hjälp av en tematisk analys, där fem huvudteman framträdde. Teorin som ligger till grund för studiens analys är generell systemteori. Resultatet visar att familjer med barn med problematisk skolfrånvaro påverkas ekonomiskt på ett eller annat sätt, exempelvis genom minskade inkomster på grund av förändrad arbetssituation eller sjukskrivning samt ökade utgifter i form av transportkostnader och kostnader för mat. Den ekonomiska situationen påverkar föräldrarnas psykiska hälsa och kan leda till ekonomisk stress och oro inför framtiden. Föräldrarna uttrycker en önskan om stöd och samordning kring situationen. Resultatet belyser individens olika förutsättningar för att hantera situationen. För att klara av situationen är det viktigt att ha ett flexibelt arbete och ett starkt socialt skyddsnät

School attendance problems is a growing problem in Sweden, which entails several different consequences for the individual and the society. This study aims to examine the economic consequences that school attendance problems cause for the families. This study is based on six semi-structured interviews with parents who have one or multiple children with school attendance problems. The empirical material has been analyzed with the help of thematic analysis, where five main themes occurred. The theory the study is based on is the general system theory. The results show that families with children with school attendance problems are affected economically in one way or another, for example through decreased income due to altered work situations or sick leave, and increased expenses such as transport expenses and expenses for food. The economic situation affects the mental health of the parents and can lead to economic stress and concern about the future. The parents express a wish for support and coordination around the situation. The result illustrates the individual's different conditions to handle the situation. A strong network of family and friends, as well as the importance of a flexible workplace is significant.
