Abstract [en]

Cyber-attack is evolving rapidly with the development of Internet technology. Even now more and more corporations and individuals are increasing their emphasis on it, but there is still a discrepancy between the public’s perception of the severity of different cyber-attack types and the true severity. This thesis researches what the discrepancy is between the public’s perception and the truth of 6 typical cyber-attack types. Mixed methods of both quantitative and qualitative methodology were used to collect and process the data. The gathered data were analyzed from different perspectives and compared. Based on the findings, the public’s perception is significantly deviated from the actual severity of those attack types. Differences exist as well between subgroups of the public.
