I betänkandet av Arkivutredningen (SOU 2019:58) tas Riksarkivets ansvar för att nå ut till allmänheten upp. Trots denna viktiga roll som förvaltare av kulturarvet saknas statistik över arkivens användare, vilket försvårar möjligheten att få ytterligare resurser. Regeringens beslut att ta fram en svensk kulturkanon utan att involvera arkiven lyfter frågor om deras roll och kompetens inom kulturområdet. Trots deras centrala roll i samhället verkar det som att arkiven ibland glöms bort när det gäller att tillgängliggöra kulturarvet.Denna studie fokuserar på Riksarkivet i Sverige och deras utåtriktade verksamhet i syfte att försöka kartlägga den och se vad den skapar och skulle kunna skapa för värde. I syfte att skapa kunskap har forskning som kan påverka det utåtriktade arbetet och synen på arkiv sammanställts. Det har även gjorts intervjuer med arkivarier anställda vid Riksarkivet för att försöka ta reda på deras förutsättningar och egna engagemang vilket skulle kunna påverka hur det utåtriktade arbetet ser ut men även tas emot.Resultatet har analyserats genom fenomenologiska glasögon och med en abduktiv ansats. Tanken med The Records Continuum Model och den fjärde dimensionen: pluralisering har även vävts in. Studien påvisar att det finns ett otroligt engagemang hos arkivarierna vid Riksarkivet, men de saknar förutsättningar för att driva en utåtriktad verksamhet i större omfattning. Frågor kommer upp om Riksarkivet börjar tas för givet, delvis på grund av att de verkar glömts bort i viktiga kulturarvsarbeten, men också för att de inte får finansiering nog för att bedriva utåtriktad verksamhet. I analysen framgår det att arbeta utåtriktat skulle kunna skapa mervärde för Riksarkivet bland annat i form av synlighet och mervärde för samhället.

The report Arkivutredningen (SOU 2019:58) addresses the responsibility of the Swedish National Archive to reach out to the public. Despite its important role as a trustee of cultural heritage, there are no statistics on archive users, which makes it difficult to obtain additional resources. The government's decision to develop a Swedish cultural canon without involving the archives raises questions about their role and expertise in the cultural field. Despite their central role in society, it seems that archives are sometimes forgotten when it comes to making cultural heritage accessible.This study focuses on the Swedish National Archive and their outreach activities in order to try to map them and see what value they create and maybe could create. In order to create knowledge, research that can influence the outreach work and the view of archives has been compiled. Interviews have also been conducted with archivists employed at the Swedish National Archive to try to find out their conditions and own commitments, which could affect how the outreach work looks but is also how it’s received.The results have been analyzed through phenomenological lenses and with an abductive approach. The idea of The Records Continuum Model and the fourth dimension: pluralization have also been woven in. The study shows that there is an incredible commitment among the archivists at the Swedish National Archive, but they lack the conditions for conducting outreach activities on a larger scale. Questions are raised about whether the Swedish National Archives are beginning to be taken for granted, partly because they seem to have been forgotten in important cultural heritage work, but also because they do not receive enough funding to conduct outreach activities. The analysis shows that outreach work could create added value for the Swedish National Archive in among other things visibility and added value for society.
