The aim of the study is to contribute knowledge about preschool teachers' perceptions of the use of digital tools in motor skills and movement activities. We aimed to shed light on how digital tools and motor skills can be used together, using the experiences of professional preschool teachers. Since today's children grow up in a society where digital tools characterize their everyday lives, we therefore consider it our responsibility as preschool teachers to ensure that children gain digital literacy. We also want to highlight the problem of children increasingly sitting still during the day.
To gain a deeper understanding of how preschool teachers approach working with digital tools in motor and movement activities, we conducted semi-structured interviews with active Swedish preschool teachers. The preschool teachers were asked to share their experiences and previous experiences of using digital tools in motor and movement activities.
The study reveals that preschool teachers perceive digital tools as an auxiliary tool in motor and movement activities, which can reinforce and provide inspiration. The study finds that digitalization is not at all linked to children's sedentary behavior in preschool. Based on the preschool teachers' statements, a professional group is highlighted that demonstrates that they possess a competence to interact digital tools in motor and movement activities.
