Everyone needs to do their part : A qualitative study on socialworkers experiences of suicideprevention within social services (English)
Abstract [sv]

Abstract [en]

The purpose of the study was to investigate how social workers within social services experience the social service's suicideprevention work. In order to answer the purpose of the study, a qualitative method was used, where six semi-structured interviews were conducted with social workers within the social services in different municipalities. A data analysis was done with inspiration from qualitative content analysis. The theoretical framework for the study consisted of an organizational theoretical approach with associated, relevant concepts. The result showed that the experiences of the interviewees were in many aspects similar to each other, as all stated that the suicideprevention work could be improved. It also showed that the number of merits that could be identified was fewer than the number of shortcomings and areas for improvement regarding suicideprevention work within social services. Finally, the result showed that all interviewees felt that higher management is lacking in developing suicideprevention work and that those responsible could do more in the matter. The conclusion that could be drawn from this was that the suicideprevention work within the social services is present, but lacking. That the number of improvement areas exceeded the number of merits clearly shows just that. The conclusion could also be drawn that the main responsibility for developing suicideprevention work lies with the respective municipality's politicians, but that the responsibility lies equally with each individual. Everyone simply needs to do their part.
