The impact digital media has on Swedish art education is a complex process that still needsto be understood and researched. Digital media reshapes the learning of art, the teaching ofart, and the experience that it creates in the classroom. The aim of this literature review is toexamine how digitalization is implemented in art education, while focusing on students ingrades 7-9 in the Swedish school system. The research examines how the subject is taught, what tools are used, and in which manner they are applied. The study also investigates thechallenges art teachers face when integrating digital media in their classrooms. Moreover, the research material was sourced through various databases like Swepub,Libsearch and ERIC. The databases provide access to peer-reviewed articles, journals andtheses. All the sourced material was limited to the years 2005-2025 to ensure that theinformation is recent, and also to be able to narrow the scope, and facilitate a manageableselection of sources in the process. To provide a comprehensive perspective and systematicresearch method, the study incorporates both national and international research. Theresearch findings are connected to the challenges faced in Swedish visual art classroomsand the integration of digital media. That being said, the results of the study show that the incorporation of digital media in theart classroom is still not completed due to various challenges. Limited resources, lack oftime and insufficient teacher training are all reasons that make the integration of digitalmedia difficult in the art education classroom. The importance of digital competence forboth the teacher and the students is also addressed. An adequate digital competence willallow an inclusive and beneficial education in the digital field. However, to make theintegration of digital media easier, teachers, schools, and governments need to worktogether and conquer the existing challenges in the school system
