Hybrid Workers Experiences of Work-Life Balance and Motivation (English)
Abstract [sv]

Hybridarbete är en arbetsform som har etablerats på många arbetsplatser under de senaste åren. Tidigare forskning visar att denna arbetsform kan ge upphov till en bättre balans mellan privat- och arbetsliv och att arbetsmotivationen generellt sätt förbättras, men att arbetsformen även medför vissa utmaningar, som exempelvis ensamhet. Ett relativt outforskat ämne är hur hybridarbetande småbarnsföräldrar påverkas av den hybridarbetande arbetsformen, och syftet med denna studie var därför att undersöka hur dessa upplever att arbetsformen inverkar på deras balans mellan arbets- och privatliv samt motivation. Studien använde sig av en kvalitativ metod och samlade in data genom semistrukturerade intervjuer med sju informanter. Genom tematisk analys genererades tre teman - att hybridarbete verkar som undergörare för livspusslet, att arbetsformen gör att gränsen mellan arbets- och privatliv utmanas samt att hybridarbete upplevs vara fritt och effektivt, men ensamt. Fynden pekar på att hybridarbete inverkar positivt på balansen mellan arbets- och privatliv samt motivation. Dels fanns utmaningar i gränssättning och social isolering. Fynden stämmer i stora drag överens med tidigare forskning kring Work-Life Balance, Self-Determination Theory och Herzbergs tvåfaktorteori.

Abstract [en]

Hybrid work has become an established work model in many workplaces in recent years. Previous research indicates that this work model can improve the balance between private and work life and generally enhance work motivation. However, it also poses certain challenges, such as feelings of loneliness. A relatively unexplored area is how parents of young children experience the hybrid work model. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to examine how these individuals perceive the impact of hybrid work on their work-life balance and motivation. The study used a qualitative method and collected data through semi-structured interviews with seven participants. Through thematic analysis, three themes emerged: hybrid work as a facilitator of managing everyday life; challenges in maintaining boundaries between work and private life; and hybrid work as free, efficient, yet isolating. The findings suggest that hybrid work positively influences work-life balance and motivation while revealing challenges related to boundary- setting and social isolation. These findings align with previous research on Work-Life Balance, Self-Determination Theory, and Herzberg’s Two-Factor Theory.
