This study investigates the mental healt of police employees within the Umea Local Police Area, with a focus on how work environment factors such as workload, leadership and collegial support affect their being. The study is based on a quantitative survay which also includes qualitative text responses from the participants. The results show that high workload, unclear directives from management and lack of recovery are the main stress factors. At the same time, strong peer support is identified as an important protective factor against mental illness. The participants requested improvements such as flexible working time planning, clearer work structures and increased participation in decision making. The study emphasizes the environment where employees feel heard, seen and appreciated. The results can contribute to the development of work environment strategies that promote long term health and sustainability within the Police Authority.
