Abstract [sv]

Abstract [en]

In this paper the authors examined the safe haven properties of gold, the US dollar (USD) and Bitcoin against OMXS30 in the early stages of Russia's invasion of Ukraine. The authors have also examined how, according to modern portfolio theory, the optimal weighted portfolio is structured. To examine the safe haven properties of the assets an ARCH/GARCH model has been applied as well as quantile regressions, which is in line with previous research. The data spans from February 1 to April 1 2022. The results regarding the safe haven properties point towards that gold and USD show safe haven properties against OMXS30 during the time period and that Bitcoin didn’t exhibit the same properties. What the authors found was in line with previous research. Regarding the optimal weighted portfolio according to modern portfolio theory a maximization of the Sharpe ratio was applied to find this. The results of the maximization showed that 29% of the portfolio should have been invested in gold and the remaining 71% in Bitcoin but with a Sharpe ratio of -0,0624.
