Abstract [sv]

Abstract [en]

The aim of this study was to investigate newly graduated social workers' perceptions of whether their social work education has sufficiently prepared them to work in the field of social work. In addition, this study also investigated which areas of improvement that these social workers could identify within the education. The study used a quantitative data collection method in the form of digital questionnaires, the collected data was then entered into SPSS and is presented in this study using frequency tables as well as correlation tables. The results showed that newly graduated social workers feel that they have adequate knowledge in areas such as law, children and youth, violence within close relationships and families. On the other hand, social workers experience a lack of knowledge about, among other things, mental illness, disability, criminality and documentation. Furthermore, 80.8 percent of the social workers believe that social work education needs improvement for the social workers to obtain sufficient knowledge for a future within social work. These suggestions for improvements include more field placement and practical elements to bridge the gap between theory and practice, a demand for more specific and up-to-date theoretical knowledge as well as requests for more focus on a sustainable professional life.
