Abstract [en]
Bangkok's rapid development has increased population diversity, enriching its cultural fabric and highlighting societal inequalities. This disparity is evident in architecture and urban spaces, where exclusivity often prevails over inclusivity.
This project aims to create a tool for an inclusive city, focusing on people with lower economic means. It seeks to sustainably revitalize abandoned shophouses, especially those along main residential roads, to improve daily routines such as eating and dwelling and support small businesses, particularly street vendors, which are integral to Bangkok's identity.
The study also aims to enhance the urban landscape and create a pedestrian-friendly environment. The proposed design could generate income for shophouse owners through operation fees and foster a symbiotic community relationship. This approach not only improves user quality of life but also boosts the economic sustainability of local businesses and the city's vibrancy.
This model, potentially operated by the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA), aims to improve the city’s infrastructure inclusively, benefiting all residents, not just those with purchasing power. It supports a symbiotic relationship between small businesses, local communities, and the city. One key feature is its adaptability; the model can fit any shophouse throughout the city. By prioritizing inclusivity and sustainability, this study envisions a healthy, joyful city for all, fostering a collaborative community, well-being improvement, and economic vitality.
