Denna uppsats undersöker Carmen Sylvas sagosamling Lidandets pilgrimsfärd: en sagokrans (1892) i förhållande till huvudkaraktären Lidandets terapeutiska funktion i berättandet om lidande och även hennes förbindelse till grekisk mytologi. Studien har genomförts genom en biografisk läsning med inspiration från teorier om terapeutiskt skrivande där mytologiska aspekter relateras till författarens livsöde. Resultatet av studien visar att Lidandet kan relateras till den grekiska mytologin, men inte vem av Oizus/Oizys och Eris dotter Sorrow. Vidare påvisas att Lidandets funktion i berättandet av lidande är att trösta med hjälp av Tålamodet och Arbetet, men även att stödja och tillrättavisa. Det framkommer även tecken på att terapeutiskt skrivande använts av författaren. 

This essay examines Carmen Sylva's Pilgrim Sorrow A cycle of Tales (1892) in relation to the main character Sorrow's therapeutic function in the narrative of suffering and also her connection to Greek mythology. The study has been carried out through a biographical reading with inspiration from theories of therapeutic writing where mythological aspects are related to the author's fate. The result of the study shows that Sorrow can be related to Greek mythology, but not who of Oizus/Oizys and Eris' daughter Sorrow. Furthermore, it is shown that the function of Sorrow in the narration of suffering is to comfort with the help of Patience and Work, but also to support and discipline. There are also signs that therapeutic writing was used by the author.
