Abstract [sv]

Abstract [en]

This qualitative study aims to investigate whether visitation zones can influence young people's behavior towards authorities, with a focus on social workers out in the field. Data collection has taken place through interviews with five social workers who work preventively in deprived areas around Sweden. The results demonstrate that the visitation zones can have both positive and negative impacts. Comparatively, the positive effects are reducing crime and a protected society, whilst the negative consequences are increased exclusion, authorities abusing their power which leads to distrust in authorities such as social services and the police. Additionally, the results show that the introduction of visitation zones affects the social work carried out in the field. The discussion highlights the importance of professionals within different authorities having dissimilar areas of responsibility, where social workers should focus on their specific delegated tasks and similarly with the police force.
