Bakgrund: Sjuksköterskans beröring kan respektfullt och rätt utförd, i många fall, minska både smärta respektive ångest hos patienten och därmed lindra lidande och bidra till hälsa. I dag finns ingen konsensus kring begrepp om patientberöring, inte heller någon enhetlig klassifikation. Det är i mångt och mycket upp till den enskilda sjuksköterskan själv eller vårdteamet att bedöma om patientberöring är lämplig eller ej. Det är därför motiverat att belysa och få en samlad bild av hur sjuksköterskan ser på denna omvårdnadsåtgärd.

Syfte: Att belysa patientberöring ur sjuksköterskans perspektiv.

Metod: En allmän litteraturstudie med sju artiklar om patientberöring har analyserats kvalitativt.

Resultat: I materialet framträder följande fyra huvudkategorier som beskriver sjuksköterskans perspektiv på patientberöring: Den expressiva beröringen ses som viktig. Det finns en variation i hur den kommer till uttryck; som sjuksköterskan menar beror på sjuksköterskan själv, patienten och miljön. Patientberöring ses fylla följande funktioner: för kommunikation, för att lindra och lugna samt för att skydda patienten. Patientberöring ses också som ett sätt att stärka relationen med patienten.

Slutsatser: Sjuksköterskan lyfter fram den expressiva patientberöringen framför den instrumentella, men det är oklart varför. Patientberöring behöver vara hela vårdens ansvar, inte bara upp till den enskilda sjuksköterskan. Enhetliga begrepp och en enhetlig klassifikation samt en specifik teori om patientberöring skulle kunna utveckla och effektivisera vården.

Background: The nurse’s touch, when performed respectfully and correctly, can in many cases reduce both pain and anxiety in the patient, thereby alleviating suffering and promoting health. Currently, there is no consensus on the concept of patient touch, nor is there a standardized classification. It is largely up to the individual nurse or healthcare team to assess whether patient touch is appropriate or not. Therefore, it is important to highlight and provide a comprehensive understanding of how nurses perceive this nursing intervention.

Aim: To highlight patient touch from the nurse’s perspective.Method: A general literature review of seven articles on patient touch was qualitatively analyzed.

Results: The analysis revealed four main categories describing the nurse’s perspective on patient touch. Expressive touch is considered important, with variations in how it is expressed, depending on the nurse, the patient, and the environment. Patient touch is perceived to serve the following functions: for communication, alleviation and calming, and protection of the patient. Additionally, patient touch is seen as a way to strengthen the nurse-patient relationship.

Conclusions: Nurses prioritize expressive patient touch over instrumental touch, although the reasons are unclear. Patient touch should be a collective responsibility of the entire healthcare system, not solely the individual nurse. Standardized concepts, a unified classification, and a specific theory on patient touch could enhance and streamline nursing care.
