Abstract [en]

Background: Global costs of pressure ulcers are high. For the individual who suffers from a pressure ulcer, this avoidable injury means great suffering. The consequences of pressure ulcers should not only be measured in money, but also loss of quality of life and increased mortality. To suffer a pressure injury means to be exposed to suffering, physical or mental injury, or illness and death. Pressure ulcers increased 30-day mortality by 20% among certain patient groups, a loss of life years in otherwise healthy individuals. Aim: To identify perioperative risk factors for pressure ulcer development. Method: To shed light on the current state of research, the study is designed as a general literature review.  Resultats: Age, Gender, BMI, Comorbidity, Skin Status, Preoperative Medication, Blood Tests, Time, Fluid Supply, Blood Loss, Intraoperative Hypotension, Administration of Vasopressor, Positioning, Surgical Specialty, Postoperative Care as well as Apache Score were variables with a statistical significance mentioned by the different authors. Conclusion: Many different variables play a role in the development of pressure ulcers. It is the synergy of the different variables together with the patients' comorbidity that creates the breeding ground for a pressure ulcer. More research is needed to create an overall picture.
