Bakgrund: Antalet barn- och unga med psykisk ohälsa ökar i Sverige vilket leder till att fler kommer övergå från barn- och ungdomspsykiatrin till vuxenpsykiatrin. Forskning visar att det finns många svårigheter förknippade med denna övergång.

Syfte: Syftet med studien var att belysa unga vuxnas upplevelser av att övergå från barn- och ungdomspsykiatrisk vård till vård inom vuxenpsykiatrin.

Metod: En metasyntes baserad på nio kvalitativa artiklar som inhämtats från CINAHL Complete och PubMed. Analys av data och syntesprocessen gjord enligt fyra steg beskrivna av Statens beredning för medicinsk utvärdering (2017) utifrån Howell Major och Savin-Baden (2010).

Resultat: Metasyntesen resulterade i två huvudteman: känsloladdad övergångsprocess och vikten av personcentrerad vård.

Slutsats: Brist på utförlig information i kombination med en övergångsprocess utan känsla av trygghet kan leda till lidande för patienter. Övergången bör planeras i relation till patientens mognad och genom samarbete mellan patient, barn- och ungdomspsykiatrin och vuxenpsykiatrin. Studiens resultat bekräftar att en tillgänglig, personcentrerad och patientsäker vård är grunden för en bra övergång från barn- och ungdomspsykiatrin till vuxenpsykiatrin.

Background: The number of children and adolescents with mental illness is increasing in Sweden which leads to more people transitioning from child and adolescent mental health services to adult mental health services. Research shows that there are many difficulties associated with this transition.

Aim: The aim of this study was to illuminate young adults’ experiences of transitioning from child and adolescent mental health services to adult mental health services.

Method: A meta-synthesis based on nine qualitative articles retrieved from CINAHL Complete and PubMed. The analysis of the data and the synthesis made according to four steps described by the Swedish Agency for Health Technology Assessment (2017) based on Howell Major and Savin-Baden (2010).

Result: The meta-synthesis resulted in two main themes: emotionally charged transition process and the importance of person-centered care.

Conclusion: A lack of detailed information combined with a transition process without a sense of security can lead to suffering for patients. The transition should be planned in relation to the patient´s maturity and through cooperation between the patient, child and adolescent mental health services and adult mental health services. The study’s result confirm that accessible, person-centered, and patient-safe care is the basis for a good transition from child and adolescent mental health services to adult mental health services.
