Abstract [en]

The thesis project aimed to develop a standardized working method for the evaluation of production safety that is in line with the Swedish Work Environment Authority's regulation AFS 2006:4. The case company has been Mesto AB Sweden, which is a supplier of industrial equipment. The project has been motivated by the need for a user-friendly standard for risk assessments that complies with AFS 2006:4 but is at the same time efficient and easy to manage. The project has been carried out as a case study with a qualitative method. The data collection has been carried out through observations, interviews, literature collection and document reviews.

The analysis at the case company has shown that they have a strong safety culture, but there are areas for improvement where the current risk management is perceived as ineffective and time-consuming. To meet these challenges, an integrated risk management model (IRM) has been developed, which combines the strengths of the PDSA cycle (plan, do, study, act) and the FMEA (failure modes and effects analysis) methodology. In the proposed IRM, AFS 2006:4 is used by identifying its sources of risks at a starting point, and the PDSA cycle and FMEA are integrated into planning and implementation of risk analysis.

The project contributes with practical contributions through the risk assessment template and instructions for this. The theoretical contribution of this project is a deeper understanding of how FMEA and PDSA can be combined to create a dynamic risk management process.
