Abstract [en]

Thinking about sustainability in design is different from ensuring the design outcome is a sustainable product. Environmental impacts and materials resources restrictions in the complexity of climate emergency has been mentioned through teaching sustainability in furniture design education. In order to reduce the impacts and achieve the knowledge of sustainability, furniture design education should pioneer in teaching and motivating students to implement sustainability in diverse approaches. The thesis’s result is a design concept for educational materials for teaching furniture design students to implement sustainability in furniture design. The main proposal is the development of an external curriculum to equip students with skills for sustainability practice and mindsets for tackling ongoing changes in environmental impacts from furniture making. To address this aim, it has the sub-proposal tool card to boost generative design thinking so that students can approach sustainability design in various ways.
