In this study The realities of prostitutes: A study in how prostitutes operated in 1900th century Sweden and their daily lives the stated aim was to study the diary of late 19th century to early 20th century prostitute Anna Johannesdotter. This through a theoretical framework grounded in the theories of Michel Foucault, in conjunction with two analytical phrases. These were power and gender. This was done using a discourse and a content analysis as the basis for the study. The results showed that Johannesdotter had a characteristic relationship with official authorities of the time, while also exhibiting some specificalities. These include looking at her role as a prostitute through a class perspective, while also being aware of the perceived sexual double standards of the time in conjunction with Victorian era social norms.
