Abstract [en]

Abstract [en]

Sport students risk to loose quality on their well-being because of the challenges they are upagainst in a talent development environment. Research about talent development has shown that several factors in the environment affects athlete`s three basic psychological needs andpsychological well-being. The current study was based on talent development environment and Basic Psychological Needs Theory (BPNT) which is a sub-theory within Selfdeterminationtheory (SDT). BPNT is based on that the individual has three internal, innatepsychological needs. This to examine the relation between talent development environmentand well-being thru every psychological need. A quantitative study was conducted with 109 participants between 16 and 18 years old (M=16,78, SD=0,78). The following instruments were used: General Health Questionnaire-12, Talent Development EnvironmentQuestionnaire-5 and The Need Satisfaction and Frustration Scale. Results showed a positive significant correlation between talent development environment and well-being. Mediation analysis showed that talent development environment had a significant indirect effect on wellbeing thru all needs, satisfied or frustrated. The result of the study will be discussed in relationto the model for effective talent development environments, Basic Psychological NeedsTheory and previous research.
