Physical description [en]

CD recording with liner notes

Description [en]

Explores the repertoire and performance practice of Swedish keyboard players at the organ in the latter half of the 18th century. Goes beyond the few extant original works specifically for the organ and includes transcriptions as well as keyboard pieces more broadly. The liner notes discusses social and aesthetic parameters for organ performance throughout the century.

The CD is the first publically available recording of the significant 1783 instrument at Dala-Husby, Sweden, built by Nicolaus Söderström. The organ is one of the grandest extant instruments from the century, with two manuals, pedals and 22 stops. It stands on the brink between classical ideals and emerging pre-Romantic sonic sensibilities.

The recording includes music by J.H. Roman, J. Agrell, H. P. Johnsen, J. G. Naumann, J. M. Kraus, P. Askergren and G. J. Vogler.
