Abstract [en]

Aim: The purpose of the study is to investigate how WISE (Work integration social enterprises) promotes employee health and sustainable development. Method: In order to investigate how WISE works to promote health and sustainable development, interviews were carried out with four business managers at four companies. Semi-structured interviews were conducted with operational managers at WISE in Central Sweden. Results: Analysed data showed that WISE promoted the health of employees through increased opportunities, increased quality of life and preconditions for all. The results also showed that there were ongoing sustainability efforts. The social, economic and ecological dimension clearly appeared in WISE's work. Conclusions: WISE is a relatively new research area and more research is needed on the challenges and opportunities that WISE face in terms of as well as their needs to strengthen health promotion and sustainability achievements. More research is needed on the public health impact of work integration social enterprises as well as on evaluating both health promotion and sustainability measures performed.
