Simulation of generic tunnels for the high speed railway with respect to cold and ice (English)
Abstract [sv]

Abstract [en]

This project aims to calculate temperatures and ice formation in the tunnels needed for the planned Swedish high-speed rail. The primary use of the results is as a background to produce guidelines for the dimensioning of concrete lining and insulation in tunnel walls. The following quantities have been calculated for a large number of generic tunnels prescribed by the Swedish Transport Administration:

• the frost index distribution along the tunnel

• the temperature difference across the concrete lining

• the frost penetration, i.e. how far, measured from the tunnel mouth, the tunnel wall experiences negative temperature

• the amount of ice behind the lining.

All generic tunnels have the same uninsulated wall construction.
