In this piece, I argue for three things that policy makers can do in order to change mathematics education in Sweden. By using Finland as a contrasting example, the following key aspects are identified as foundations: to be left alone, to have time to adjust and time to work, and to have possibility to learn especially collaboratively. Structures for in-service teaching education is needed and teachers should not have to spend the majority of their time on administration jobs.
