Abstract [sv]

Abstract [en]

The article analyses the interaction in a Swedish municipality’s digital question forum. How do private citizens present their case, and how do the municipality officials reply? The results show a high degree of uniformity. The citi-zens always present a complete case, usually in accordance with a traditional written language norm. The most substantial difference concerns whether a message is started with a greeting (invariably hej ‘hello’) or not. The response always adheres to a traditional written language norm and always contains greetings, but it also often contains additional pleasantries (“Welcome to our question forum” and “Good luck with your building plans!”). The municipality officials thus devote much space to being cordial and trying to create a social relationship.
