Abstract [en]

Demonstrations are conducted on 5 bridges, which each have different objectives, monitoring system and main responsible partner.

- Bridge 1 in Finland is a riveted steel truss railway bridge of single span. It is located on an electrified railway line undergoing actual axle load and passenger train speed upgrade. An automationbased monitoring system, based on commercially easily available components, is demonstrated.

- Bridge 2 in Finland is 4-span continuous concrete box-girder bridge. It is used to conventional computer-based long-term monitoring system with container, and a prototype of specific fibreopticstrain-measurement sensor.

- Bridge 3 in Switzerland is a small reinforced concrete slab railway bridge. It is used to determine reliable input for testing the reinforcement bar fatigue analysis model developed in the project. Various advanced field measurement techniques are demonstrated in the context of a small and stiff railway bridge.

- Bridge 4 in Poland is a riveted steel plate girder bridge, to be used to demonstrate monitoring by means of repeated field testing. It focus on testing of a portable shaker system developed in the project. It is used for identification of bridge’s modal parameters (natural frequencies, damping and mode shapes).

- Bridge 5 in Sweden is single-span riveted steel truss railway bridge. It stands for actual railway line upgrade, and will focus on practical problem solving assisted by monitoring. Method to measur estresses in rivets and rivet strengthening is studied. Special reference is made to true dynamic excitation factors measured from the bridge.
