Collaboration between civil society and planning for the promotion of gender equality perspectives in planning : A case studie of Husby Centrum (English)
Abstract [sv]

Abstract [en]

Urban planning today has several equality goals to work toward, both international, national as well as municipal. Among other things, there is both a certain inequality in individuals’ movement patterns, in participation in the public space as well as in participation in the planning process and decision making. This essay studies how collaboration between the civil society and the planners can contribute to new knowledge and new perspectives which then can be used to promote the gender equality perspective of the urban planning. This is conducted in a case study of the renovation of Husby Centrum. In connection to the renovation of Husby Centrum, several dialogs have been conducted, as well as project, Praxagora, where women from the civil society were invited to participate in five workshops on what gender perspective in the renovation of the center could mean. The results show that collaboration can contribute with new knowledge, both local knowledge that can contribute to new perspectives in the planning, but also general knowledge for the planners. Collaboration is affected, among other things, by the level of trust that exists between the civil society and the planning in the area, how well the communication between different participating actors work, as well as in which way the results are taken care of.
